MY ARTWORK
I'm experienced in many art forms and enjoy using all types of media and materials. Although painting was my area of concentration at Oakland University, I'm continually experimenting, exploring, learning, and creating new and exciting art forms. My most current personal artwork has been in Ceramics and Metal Jewelry which I sell at craft shows. Here is a look at some of my artwork. Please enjoy!
Ceramics
These are some of the ceramics vessels I made using various techniques such as pinch pot, coil building, slab construction, and wheel throwing.
Jewelry
A variety of stones, metals and techniques were used to make these different jewelry pieces. I used sawing, riveting, soldering, cabochon setting, textures, wire wrapping, jump rings, lost wax casting, and found object casting.
Resin Painting
I started using resin in my paintings because I like the 3-Dimensional quality I can get from it. The surface texture and 3-D quality of these paintings invite the viewer to take a closer look and see beyond the surface. The layers of resin, paint, dyes, and embedded objects enhance the meaning behind the emotions, as well as the aesthetic effect of my work. My work is about the interpretation of emotions as people's appearances are often deceiving. We are sometimes unable to read a person’s emotions just by looking at them, therefore their expressions or body poses could easily be misread. Working with these materials, I have found balance between realism and abstract expressionism. The unpredictability of working with resin fascinates me. As the resin cures, my paintings transform, enhancing the expression of the ever changing depth of our emotions.
Oil Painting
This is a series of paintings I made about identity, fashion, and technology, as well as some abstract expressionism where I experimented with the media. I was exploring the idea of how people use fashion to create an identity for themselves to stand out in society, yet they stay anonymous by using technology to make their purchases.
Genre Painting
In these paintings, I explored different genres such as fauvism, expressionism, realism, surrealism, and abstract art.
Still Life Painting
These painting were mostly done from still life or using my own photographs as reference.
Drawing
Drawings are done using a variety of mediums such as graphite, color pencil, conte crayon, charcoal, or pastels.
Sculpture
When I make sculptures, I explored many mediums such as clay, paper mache, plaster, and various other materials. The cube sculptures were done as a series about shapes and materials. The cube is a perfect shape with its identical sides and corners. A box is also used in many ways to contain things. For those reasons, the cube represents both concepts of interior and exterior space in the world, whether psychological or material.
Photography
Photography can be so versatile with the use of a 35mm camera & film, unaltered digital color photography, and Photoshop manipulation. Nature, people, and classical cars have been the focus of my photography.
